Disabled Oregon Hunters: Tioga Unit Hunt is Bull Elk Only

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife reminds hunters with Permanent Disability Permits they can only harvest three-point or better bull elk in the Tioga Unit. The 224X Tioga Unit No. 1 hunt runs Nov. 10 – Nov. 14 and the 224Y hunt is Nov. 17 – Nov. 25.

This is the first year disabled hunters cannot take an antlerless elk. According to Stuart Love, Charleston field office wildlife biologist, the elk population in the Tioga Unit is below Management Objective.

“Eliminating the anterless elk harvest should bring the population back up in time,” Love said. “We also eliminated this option for archery hunters this past season.”

As the elk population recovers, ODFW will consider allowing antlerless harvest where appropriate.
