Maine DIFW: Operation Game Thief Rewards Available
The Maine Warden Service wants to remind everyone that Operation Game Thief is in full swing and paying up to $2,000.00 for information that leads to an arrest and prosecution.
“Operation Game Thief is a tool that we rely on to provide additional eyes and ears in the fight against poaching,” said Col. Joel Wilkinson, head of the Maine Warden Service. “It provides a crucial element in spotting those people who would steal and slaughter game for no reason at all.”
Since its inception, Operation Game Thief has received more than 8,000 calls about poaching. More than 2,500 convictions have resulted in more than $70,000.00 being paid out in rewards.Operation Game Thief averages 359 tips annually, and this year has received 322 so far.
Callers do not have to reveal their names or testify in court. All of the monies that support the program come from donations from concerned sportsmen, sportswomen, and citizens.
