A Deer Hunting Message from Wisconsin’s Chief Warden Stark

Tomorrow Wisconsin launches one of its most treasured traditions – the 9-day gun-deer season. The annual hunt is deeply woven in our state’s culture. Deer hunting takes us to the outdoors, connects us to the natural world, and reminds us of our rich conservation history.

We enjoy it with friends, our families or on our own in a blanket of quiet solitude. The future of our hunting heritage depends upon today’s hunters and their willingness to share their expertise and passion for deer hunting with new hunters. Mentoring a novice hunter of any age is rewarding and a lot of fun. Please consider introducing a “First Timer” to the hunting tradition. As they say: “It takes a hunter to make a hunter.”

If you have information to share regarding violators who endanger public safety or poachers who steal opportunity from law abiding hunters, our wardens can be contacted through the Violation Hotline at 1-800-TIP-WDNR.

As you pack your gear to enjoy the gun-deer season, on behalf of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation Warden Service, we wish you a safe, enjoyable and successful hunt. Good luck!!
