New Mexico Fishing and Stocking Reports for Dec. 4

Catches of the Week

Tingley Beach: Nov. 30, Litzie, a member of the Washington Middle School fishing club caught a 22-inch rainbow trout. She was using Power Bait.

The following came in too late for last week’s report but we felt they were definitely worth mentioning:

San Juan River: Nov. 23, Gabriel Flores caught and released a 25-inch, 6-pound brown trout. He was using a size 22 red worm. Nov. 24, he caught and released a 24-inch, 5-pound rainbow. He was using 7x tippet and a size 24 olive midge.

Northeast

Cabresto Lake: The lake and campground closed May 14 and will stay closed while the dam is being rebuilt.
Charette Lakes: Closed for the season.
Clayton Lake: Closed for the season.
Conchas Lake: The Cannon Cove Campground boat ramp is open and fully functional. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Nest Lake: Kokanee snagging picked up for boaters working near the dam over the past week. A few anglers reported taking limits within two hours. Trout fishing was fair using Power Bait, homemade dough baits and salmon eggs. Fishing for all other species was slow.
Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Maloya: Fishing was good using Power Bait, homemade dough baits and Pistol Petes for trout.
Los Pinos: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Manzano Lake: Trout fishing was slow but there were a few taken by anglers using garlic cheese and garlic Power Bait
Maxwell Lake 13: Closed for the season.
Monastery Lake: Trout fishing was fair to good using Power Bait and salmon eggs.
Morphy Lake: Closed for the season.
Pecos River: Water flow near the town of Pecos on Monday was 16 cfs. Trout fishing through the Villanueva area was fair for anglers using salmon eggs and small spinners.
Red River: Water flow below the hatchery was 31 cfs. Trout fishing was slow to fair using worms and salmon eggs.
Red River City Ponds: Closed for the season.
Rio Grande: The water flow Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 376 cfs. Trout fishing was slow to fair using red San Juan worms, wooly buggers and nightcrawlers. We had no reports on other species.
Rio Hondo: Water flow near Valdez on Monday was 8.4 cfs. Trout fishing was slow.
Rio Mora: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Barbara: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Springer Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Storrie Lake: Fishing pressure was extremely light and we had no reports from anglers this week. Stubblefield Lake: The lake has reopened with a new agreement reached with the Vermejo Conservancy District. However, with the current low water conditions, fishing is discouraged at this time.
Ute Lake: Fishing for walleye and white bass was sporadic this past week. A few anglers reported limits of walleye while others zeroed. Slab spoons and blade baits fished over 30 to 35 still produced the best results. Fishing for all other species was slow. The water was stained and the surface temperature was in the low 50s.

Northwest

Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was slow but there were a few smallmouth bass and small walleye taken on jigs. We had no reports on other species. The surface water temp ranged from the high 40s to the low 50s. Albuquerque Area Drains: Trout fishing on the drains was very good this past week. Anglers reported doing very well fishing the Albuquerque, Belen and Peralta Drains. They were using a variety of small baits including a single salmon egg on a small hook, a small piece of Power Bait or homemade dough bait and size 14 to 18 bead-head nymphs. A few trout were also taken on worms. We had no reports on other species.
Bluewater Lake: Trout fishing was very good this past week as many anglers reported taking limits. They were using salmon eggs and an assortment of Power Bait. We had no reports on other species.
Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 400 cfs and 456 cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was good using nightcrawlers, Panther Martins, Rapalas, Power Bait, copper John Barrs, wooly buggers and streamers for a mix of browns and rainbows. We had no reports from below Abiquiu.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
El Vado Lake: Kokanee snagging opened Oct. 1 and runs through Dec. 31. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Fenton Lake: The ice continued to recede this past week with the warmer weather. Trout fishing was fair using worms and salmon eggs from the bank and Pistol Petes and wooly buggers from boats. Bank anglers reported the best success.
Heron Lake: Kokanee snagging was slow with a few fish taken in the La Laja boat ramp area and the Ridge Rock area. Fishing for trout was slow to fair using roe sacs and Power Bait.
Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Water flow on the Jemez River as of Monday morning was 16 cfs. Trout fishing on the Jemez was good using salmon eggs and small copper John Barrs. We had no reports on other streams in this area.
Laguna del Campo: Closed for the season.
Lake Farmington: Trout fishing was fair using Power Bait and salmon eggs. We had no reports on other species.
Navajo Lake: Kokanee snagging opened here and on the Pine River Oct. 1 and runs through Dec. 31. There is an of- limits fishing and snagging area at the Pine boat ramp. It appears that snagging is over for this year. Fishing for rainbow trout was slow to fair using Power Bait and salmon eggs. Fishing for all other species was slow. The surface water temps ranged from the high 40s to the mid 50s.
Ramah Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan: Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 389 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was very good for anglers using San Juan worms, pink and red egg patterns, red larva, leeches, chocolate and grey foam wing emergers and olive and grey midge patterns. Fishing through the bait waters was good using jerk baits, Power Bait, nightcrawlers, copper John Barrs, wooly buggers and salmon eggs.
Santa Cruz Lake: The boat ramp has been closed due to low water conditions. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week. This water is open to fishing for youth under the age of 12 and an excellent place to take youngsters and get them interested in fishing. The pond is well stocked to offer youngsters a great fishing experience.
Tingley Beach: Trout fishing at the Central Pond was very good for anglers using garlic Power Bait, garlic cheese, Rooster Tail spinners, worms and salmon eggs. Anglers from the Washington Middle School fishing club had a great time catching trout with Power Bait and spinners. At the Children’s Pond the youngsters did well using salmon eggs and Power Bait. Trout fishing at the Catch and Release Pond was slow to fair using egg patterns, zebra midges and small streamers. We had no reports on other species.

Southwest

Aggie Pond: This water is also known as Alumni Pond. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bear Canyon: Trout fishing was good using spinners, Pistol Petes, homemade dough bait and Power Bait. Bill Evans Lake: Trout fishing was good using Power Bait, homemade dough bait, garlic cheese, salmon eggs and spinners. We had no reports on other species.
Caballo Lake: All boat ramps have been closed and will remain closed until water levels rise and it is safe for launching. Fishing pressure was light this past week but there were a few catfish caught by anglers using stink bait and nightcrawlers. We had no reports on other species.
Elephant Butte: Fishing was once sporadic. A few white bass, walleye and black bass were caught by anglers using spoons and jigs on main lake points. Fishing for catfish was slow to fair using stink bait, nightcrawlers and chicken liver. We had no reports on other species. The water was murky and the surface temp was in the low to mid 50s.The Monticello, Dam Site and Rock Canyon boat ramps remain closed due to low water conditions.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Gila River: Water flow on the Gila this past Monday was 62 cfs. Trout fishing was slow to fair using worms. We had no reports on other species.
Glenwood Pond: Trout fishing was good using Power Bait.
Lake Roberts: Trout fishing was good using Power Bait, garlic cheese, homemade dough baits and worms. We had no reports on other species.
Percha Dam: The water was low and fishing was slow for all species.
Quemado Lake: Trout fishing was fair using spinners, spoons and Power Bait. We had no reports on tiger musky.
Rio Grande: Water flow below Elephant Butte on Monday was 3.7 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Snow Lake: With access roads open and a recent double stocking of rainbow trout, put this lake high on your list for some fall fishing from the bank. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Southeast

Bataan Lake: Trout fishing was fair using spoons and Power Bait. We had no reports on other species.
Blue Hole Park Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bonito Lake: Closed.
Bosque Redondo: Fishing was slow but there were a few trout taken by anglers using flies under a bubble and Power Bait.
Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Brantley Lake: Anglers are to practice catch-and-release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
El Rito Creek: Trout fishing was good using salmon eggs and small copper John Barrs.
Green Meadow Lake: Trout fishing was very good using spinners and Power Bait. Kevin Ortiz reported that the spinners worked best at the deep end of the lake. William Armendarez reported good fishing on the north side by the boat ramp and on the northeast bank. Good baits were garlic cheese, garlic Power Bait and homemade dough baits.
Grindstone Reservoir: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jal Lake: Trout fishing was slow to fair using Power Bait and salmon eggs.
Lake Van: Trout fishing was fair using Power Bait, homemade dough bait, salmon eggs, garlic cheese and salmon egg marshmallow combinations. We had no reports on other species.
Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was fair using Power Bait and worms for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Pecos River: Water flow on Monday below Sumner Lake was 27 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using worms, salmon eggs and Power Bait. We had no reports on other species.
Perch Lake: Trout fishing was fair using Panther Martins, Pistol Petes and garlic flavored Power Bait. Ruidoso River: Water flow at Hollywood on Monday was 6.6 cfs. Trout fishing was slow to fair using salmon eggs and small bead-head nymphs.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing pressure continued to be very light with just a few anglers fishing from the bank. Fishing was slow for all species. The boat ramp has been closed but the lake is accessible for canoes and kayaks.
Sumner Lake: Fishing pressure was nonexistent again this past week and we had no reports. The Violation Canyon boat ramp remains open at this time and will remain open as long as lake levels permit.
