Colorado’s Keystone Resort Expands Available Terrain Following a Foot of Fresh Snow

Keystone Resort announced today that almost 90 acres of additional terrain will open this weekend, following a winter storm that dropped a foot of natural snow and brought sustained cold temperatures. Friday will mark the season debut of North Peak, Keystone’s second of three peaks. Skiers and riders will enjoy the first runs of the season on Prospector and Last Alamo, the latter of which will provide bump skiing and riding. Portions of the intermediate slopes Paymaster and Mozart will also make their season debut Friday. Also, Terrain park enthusiasts can enjoy the new jump line on Main Street, which opened a large jump and several rail features Tuesday. Overall, 320 acres will be available for the weekend, thanks to Mother Nature and continued efforts by Keystone’s powerful snowmaking and grooming team.
The new terrain on North Peak will be accessed by the Outpost Gondola from the top of Dercum Mountain and both the Santiago Express and Ruby Express chairlifts will be open for the season Friday. Skier and riders will be able to enjoy a slopeside meal at Labonte’s Cabin, located at the base of North Peak, featuring delicious bar-b-que, cold beverages and plenty of outdoor seating to soak up some of Colorado’s sun rays. The Outpost dining outlet will also open Friday, with lunch service at the Alpenglow Stube, North America’s highest elevated AAA Four-Diamond rated restaurant. Lunch, drinks and snacks will also be available from the Timber Ridge Food Court in The Outpost.
The fun doesn’t stop there, as snow enthusiasts will now be able to test their skills against four time overall World Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsey Vonn, beginning Friday with the opening of EpicMix Racing. A new spin on the race experience, skiers and riders will be able to race against the clock, Lindsey’s time or friends and family. Racing is just $8 for the first race, $4 for each additional run. Statistics and standings can be tracked on Vail Resort’s innovative EpicMix pass technology.
Holiday cheer is abound at Keystone with the Festival of Trees, Dec. 12-16, Keystone aglow holiday light installation, Nutcracker Suite and Holiday Concert, Dec. 16, Lego Oasis, Dec. 11-Jan. 7, and the amazing Keystone Chocolate Village, made of nearly 5,000 pounds of pure chocolate, Dec. 20-Jan. 3. Special holiday meals can be enjoyed at a number of the Resort’s signature dining experiences, including the historic Ski Tip Lodge, The Ranch, Alpenglow Stube, Der Fondue Chessel and the horse-drawn sleigh ride dinners. Family fun continues with Keystone’s daily Kidtopia programming and on/off-mountain fun including mountaintop snow tubing, the Keystone Nordic Center, ice skating at both the Keystone Lake and Dercum Square Ice Rink, and more.
