Lake Chicot Management Plan Revision in Place for Arkansas

The Lake Chicot Management Plan has been revised with just a single change. The public overwhelming approved moving the lake drawdown to a period after July 4.

Fisheries staff from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission held a public meeting last year, along with an online survey, to gauge the public’s interest in removing the 10-inch crappie length limit and changing the start of drawdowns to after July 4.

Many anglers voiced opposition to removing the crappie length limit. That proposal was dropped from the proposed management plan. The second proposed change to the plan recommended that lake drawdowns begin after July 4, which is the time that all other previous drawdowns had started. That proposal met with strong approval from the public and was approved.

The Lake Chicot Management Plan is up for revision every five years. The first plan came up for revision in 2007 when no changes were made to the plan.

This is done through habitat management, fish stocking, hunting and fishing regulations, and a host of other programs.
