One Day, Three Fishing Events in Northern Utah

Anglers can catch a grand slam of fishing experiences in northern Utah, all is one day!

On Jan. 26, biologists with the Division of Wildlife Resources will be at three lakes to help you learn more about the joys of winter fishing.

Bear Lake

Dipnetting for Bonneville cisco is a fun activity for the whole family.

The cisco usually make their annual spawning run at Bear Lake in late January. The cisco run at Bear Lake is the only time when dipnetting is allowed in Utah. The action is usually fast—you can usually catch your limit of 30 cisco within 15 minutes.

This event offers perfect fishing for fidgety kids (and even adults) who have short attention spans!

Fishing for cisco is usually best early in the morning.

Mantua Reservoir

On Jan. 26, the Brigham City Recreation Department will sponsor a family ice fishing day at Mantua Reservoir. Biologists and others will teach you about ice safety, how to catch fish through the ice and how to fillet the fish you catch.

The event begins in the morning and runs until noon.

Hyrum Reservoir

The state park at Hyrum Reservoir has a reputation for hosting fun fishing events. This year’s “Winterfest” should be no exception.

The Winterfest will include stations that will introduce you to different winter activities. Activities you can learn to do include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowmobile riding, sled riding and ice fishing.

The event runs from noon to 4 p.m.

More information about these activities is available by calling the DWR’s Northern Region office at 801-476-2740.
