Barb Naramore Appointed Minnesota DNR Assistant Commissioner

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Landwehr has appointed Barb Naramore as a new assistant commissioner for the agency.

Naramore replaces Mary McConnell, who left the DNR after two years on the job.

Until recently, Naramore was the executive director of the Upper Mississippi River Basin Association. At the organization, she served the states of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin in various positions since 1990.

The group, which is based in St. Paul, was charged with coordinating the states’ river-related programs and policies, and worked with federal agencies that had river-management responsibilities.

As a DNR assistant commissioner, Naramore will oversee the DNR divisions of Ecological and Water Resources, Forestry, and Lands and Minerals. She is one of three assistant commissioners who serve under Landwehr.

Naramore graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. She holds a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute. A Virginia native, she lives in Eagan with her husband and son.

She started her new job on Monday.
