Early reports based upon harvest numbers provided to the Department of Natural Resources from hunters show the state set an all-time record for bucks taken during the archery season — and held its own for total harvest with other top states.

The totals reported by hunters – which still must be reviewed by DNR wildlife experts — show:

  • A 5 percent increase in total deer harvest in 2012 from 2011.
  • This total returns Wisconsin as one of the nation’s top five deer hunting states for total harvests.
  • Of the grand preliminary total, more than 93,000 were taken during the archery season — and 45,775 of that were bucks for an all-time buck archery harvest in the state.
