Kauai Hunting “Unit A” Feral Goat Permits Available for Archery and Muzzleloader in Hawaii

The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) today announced the availability of animal control permits for feral goats in Hunting “Unit A,” Kekaha Game Management Area, on the island of Kauai.

Permits will be limited and given on a first-come, first-served basis from the Lihue DOFAW office at 3060 Eiwa St., Rm. 306, Lihue, HI 96766. Participants must present their 2012-13 Hawaii Hunting license when acquiring their permit. A participant may acquire up to three additional permits for other participants, but must present his or her hunting license as well. A participant may sign up for both archery and muzzleloader control hunting periods.

Archery only dates (two-day slots): March 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, 23-24 and 30-31, 2013. Archery permits will be available on Feb. 11, 2013, at 8 a.m.

Muzzleloader only dates (two-day slots): April 6-7, 13-14, 20-21, and 27-28, 2013. Muzzleloader permits will be available on March 11, 2013, at 8 a.m.

Due to the 2012 Kokee fire declaration closure, access to portions of Hunting “Unit A” remains closed.

Game mammals shall not be hunted on state-owned or state-controlled lands without a DOFAW permit. All requirements contained in Chapter 123, “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting,” shall apply to the control permits for the above listed dates.

For further information, call the Lihue DOFAW office at (808) 274-3433 on regular working days from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
