Full Moon Fun at Colorado Forest State Park

The snow-covered winter woods beckon once again at the State Forest State Park’s second annual, Full Moon Open House, Saturday, Feb. 23, where participants will enjoy an evening of snow-filled fun by the light of the moon.

As a unique remedy for cabin fever, the Full Moon Open House provides a chance to enjoy the snow-covered state park by moonlight. Lucky park visitors may even catch a glimpse of wildlife, including moose.

“It’s a great event and we encourage everyone to join us,” said State Forest State Park Manager Kent Minor. “Amazing artwork, moonlight reflecting off snow, good friends and a magnificent state park adds up to a memorable evening.”

The event kicks-off at 2 p.m. with the Artist Showcase, a beautiful display of watercolor and oil paintings, glass art and jewelry created by local artisans.

After the sun goes down and the moon comes up, everyone is encouraged to enjoy a fun-filled evening snowshoeing or cross-country skiing along the six-mile Gould Loop that begins by the Moose Visitor Center.

The route is studded with glow sticks to guide skiers and snowshoers, and everyone gets their “glow on” with glow-in-the-dark jewelry provided at the park.

Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies provided along the trail at the Chocolate Cabin, and bring some food for the potluck at the Moose Visitor Center.

Everyone should come bundled up and prepared for cold temperatures.
