ACUI West Coast International Championships Results

The Association of College Unions International (ACUI) West Coast International Championships took place this past weekend, Feb 1–3, at Tucson Trap & Skeet Club in Tucson, Ariz. Forty-three students from nine colleges and universities across the country participated in International Skeet and International Bunker Trap during the two-day event.

ACUI awarded endowment money for team High Overall (HOA) in each event, Champion teams ($2500), Runner up teams ($1500) and Third place ($1000). Each participating team also received $5000 in endowment money. All total ACUI gave out $55,000 in endowment and operating funds. The endowment funds were deposited in the team’s Scholastic Shooting Trust Account at MidwayUSA Foundation.

Russ Arnold, Shooting Sports Consultant to ACUI stated “This was the first national event where the new ISSF/USA Shooting shotgun rules were in effect. When the preliminary scores are no longer carried forward it will add considerable drama to the finals because it is easy for the spectators to keep track of who is leading. This rule change will definitely change both games and the shooter’s overall strategies. The emphasis will no longer be on having a target lead, coming out of the preliminaries, but rather just making it to the finals where both games change considerably.”

We thank Stan Marubayashi, Ron Larson, Jon Ogilvie, the Tucson Trap and Skeet Club referees, Jay Waldron of USAS and all the teams and shooters for their cooperation as we worked our way through the new rules.

ACUI has organized the collegiate clay target championships for 45 years. The Clay Target Collegiate Shotgun Bowl Series was created to provide additional opportunities for competition closer to participating campuses, thereby allowing full team roster participation.
