Head south to the “Texas tropics” for the Outdoor Writers Association of America’s 2015 conference. OWAA invites you to join them on May 22-24, 2015, in McAllen, Texas, for three jam-packed days of professional growth and outdoor opportunities. The conference will be nestled in the Rio Grande Valley, combining the abundant wildlife, nature, and outdoor activities with a unique and authentic south of the border experience.
The staff at McAllen Convention and Visitors’ Bureau looks forward to welcoming OWAA members to the Rio Grande Valley area. The valley is home to a wide variety of plants and animals found nowhere else in the United States, making it a renowned destination for birders and nature photographers alike. The area also provides access to freshwater sports such as kayaking and canoeing in the Rio Grande River and saltwater fishing access in the Gulf of Mexico.
The host hotel for the 2015 conference is the Embassy Suites-McAllen which boasts $109/night room rates that include a daily made-to-order breakfast, a nightly manager’s reception with free drinks and hors d’oeurves, and a complimentary airport shuttle. The full-service suite hotel is located just a few miles from the McAllen Convention Center, a state-of-the-art convention center that will host all conference sessions and meals.
Demo Day will be held at Town Lake at Firemen’s Park with water and fishing access. Shooting Day will be hosted at the Lozano Shooting Range, owned and operated by a historic Texas ranching family.
McAllen CVB will also host a welcome dinner at the Quinta Mazatlan World Birding Center and it is recommended that attendees also experience a taste of some of the wonderful local cuisine, served at restaurants such as Frida’s Grill & Cantina, House Wine & Bistro, Costa Messa and hundreds more.
This is one conference location that will provide activities and experiences like no other, all the while allowing attendees to boost their careers and expand their professional networks. OWAA Past President Marty Malin will be the conference local chair. Details about the McAllen conference will be posted at www.owaa.org/2015conference as they become available.
