Grants Available for Recreational Trails Projects in Nevada

Approximately $1,250,000 in grant funds from the Federal Highway Administration trails assistance program is available for motorized, non-motorized and education trail projects. The Nevada Division of State Parks is accepting applications for eligible projects that include new construction, maintenance, trail related facilities or education projects. A minimum of 30% of funds will go to motorized projects. A maximum of 5% will be awarded to environmental education trail training projects.
Federal, state, city and county governments, special governmental districts, trail organizations and private individuals are potentially eligible for the grants.
Since 1993, the Recreational Trails Program has funded hiking and equestrian trails, trail brochures, trailheads, interpretive trails, OHVA/ATV trails, urban pedestrian/bicycle paths and trail education. Past projects include the Shoshone OHV Trail, the Tahoe Rim Trail, the Mount Charleston Blue Tree Trail and the Tahoe Pyramid Bikeway.
“This is a great opportunity to create or improve trails so more people can get out and appreciate Nevada’s natural beauty,” said Dave Morrow, administrator of Nevada State Parks.
The 2013 Grants Manual and Application packages are available at www.parks.nv.gov. or at the Division of State Parks office, located at 901 S. Stewart Street, Suite 5005, Carson City, Nev. 89701. All National Environmental Policy Act requirements must be met before the submitting an application.
Applications are due April 5 by 5:00 p.m. at the State Parks office. Faxed or emailed copies are not accepted.
