Detroit Boat Show Opening Weekend up 20 Percent

Long lines of anxious boaters awaited the opening doors of the 55th Annual Detroit Boat Show today at Cobo Center. Steady crowds filled the halls throughout the day despite the bad weather.

“Opening day is always a hit, but having general attendance increase by 20 percent is a sure sign of a rebound,” said Show Manager Nicki Polan.

Exhibitors were also happy with the buyers in the crowd. “Great Traffic with lots of interest, we had strong sales and it seems people are buying more higher end products than in the past,” Chuck Heil, C&C Sports, Brighton, Mich.

“We had a great day. You heard the bell ringing, which means we were selling boats. Attendees had a more upbeat attitude and are ready to spend money,” said Curly Arbuckle, Wilson Marine, St. Clair Shores.

The show continues through February 24, with the ultimate shopping experience for boats, motors and accessories, new model introductions, and fun promotions for the whole family! Swamp People’s Trigger Tommy and Trapper Joe will be greeting their fans from 1-3pm and 4-6pm on Sunday, 2/17. Kids can walk on water in the Waterwalkerz, learn about boating at the kid’s clinic, meet a real mermaid and climb aboard hundreds of boats!
