Wyoming’s SF0132 Hunting with Silencers Bill Signed by Governor Matt Mead

   02.19.13

The American Silencer Association is pleased to announce that Wyoming’s SF0132 Hunting with Silencers bill was signed by Governor Matt Mead Monday. This law, which goes into effect July 1st, 2013 will make it legal to hunt varmints, big game and trophy animals with sound suppressors. It also legalizes the possession of suppressors “anywhere where game MAY occur” in Wyoming. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s old interpretation of the law caused problems for suppressor owners for simply possessing a suppressor where game animals MAY occur. This new law fixes that.

It is important to note under the new law that a landowner MAY restrict the use of suppressors on their private land.

This was a difficult battle for the American Silencer Association and we fought opponents with vast resources including the AFL-CIO and the Wyoming Game Wardens Association. Our lobbyist spent almost 3 weeks on the ground in Wyoming to make this happen, and that costs money. If you can help support the ASA please contact Knox Williams and make a contribution: Knox@americansilencerassociation.com

The ASA could not have passed this bill alone, we had help from partners including the Wyoming Sportsmen For Fish and Wildlife, Wyoming Gun Owners, The National Rifle Association and certain individuals who must remain unnamed. We thank all of them for their hard work and dedication.

We want to thank the legislators who kept this bill moving through the process and never gave up! Senators, Ogden Driskill and Paul Barnard, and Representative Allen Jaggi. We also thank Governor Matt Mead for signing SF0132.
