Hospice Benefit Features Visit from Outdoor Channel’s Joe Thomas, Chance to Win Boat

Registration opened this week for the fifth annual Suddenlink Open Tony Gibson Memorial Fishing Tournament, to be held Saturday, March 2, at the Concho Pavilion on Lake O.H. Ivie, 24282 County Road 4763, in Millersview. Once again Joe Thomas, host of “Stihl’s Reel in the Outdoors” on Outdoor Channel – America’s Leader In Outdoor TV, will award prizes and greet competitors.

Entrants 17 and over will compete for a first-place cash prize of $2,200. First prize in the 16-and-under category will be a $200 gift certificate provided by Field & Streams Sporting Goods. New this year is a special drawing that will award one person an opportunity to win either a cash prize between $500 and $1,000 or a Skeeter ZX200 performance fishing boat valued at $40,000. In all, more than $10,000 in cash and prizes, in addition to the possible boat giveaway, will be awarded at the tournament. In addition, the tournament is a Skeeter Real Money event.

Online registration and information are available at fishtheopen.com.  Registration forms are also available at most sponsor locations. Early registration fee for the over-16 tournament will be $62.10 online via PayPal, or $60 using the optional mail-in form available on the website until 5 p.m. February 28th. Late registration will cost an additional $15 through the morning of March 2 at the Concho Pavilion. There is no fee for the 16-and-under competition.

Proceeds from the tournament will aid Hospice of San Angelo’s (HOSA) mission to serve area families coping with terminal illness. The past three years the tournament has proved to be Hospice’s single-largest annual fundraising event, raising a total of $47,000. The tournament is named in memory of avid fisherman and San Angelo Bass Club member Tony Gibson, who was a winner at the 2009 tournament. Gibson received care from Hospice of San Angelo before he passed away in October 2009.

The 2013 tournament is being presented by Suddenlink, in partnership with the San Angelo Bass Club.  Major sponsors include: ALNC Steel Fabrication, Good Year Proving Grounds, Horizon Branding, Java Jail, Space Age Communications, Tom Thorp Transportation and Walmart. Also supporting the tournament are: Bourland & Leverich, Cal Tech, Cross Texas Supply, D&D Construction, Dean’s Marine, Field & Streams, Jim Bass Ford, Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Chiropractic, The Bank and Trust, and West Texas Steel and Supply.
