Camden Fisherman Now Owns Arkansas Bullhead Record
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission 02.27.13
Gene Wallace of Camden has added a species to the list of Arkansas record fish.
Wallace caught a 2-pound, 1-ounce brown bullhead Feb. 11 while fishing in Bragg Lake in Ouachita County. The fish measured 15.3 inches long and had a girth of 9.5 inches. Wallace was using cut shad.
Yellow and black bullheads are on the list, but this is the first brown.
It was weighed at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Camden Regional Office. Jason Olive, an AGFC fisheries biologist, identified the species and the weight.
Brown bullheads prefer slow water, especially ponds and lakes. They feed on the bottom, usually at night, and use barbels to find insects, plants, snails, crayfish, worms, leeches and small fish.
