The pursuit of great fish is the essence of the IGFA – since being founded in 1939, we have tracked record catches from around the world and continue to do so today. The Tenth Annual World Record Achievement Awards ceremony, presented by Hugh’s Culinary, honors the top record producing anglers and manufacturers over the past year, as well as those anglers receiving the IGFA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. This year’s ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 20th from 6 – 10 pm at the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum in Dania Beach, Florida.
Compiled from the 2013 IGFA World Record Game Fishes book “Top Ten” list, awards will be presented to anglers and tackle manufacturers who have achieved the most records in freshwater, saltwater, fly rod, junior and All-Tackle Length categories in 2012. This year, anglers from eight different countries will be recognized for their achievements over the past year.
In addition to honoring the top achievements of the past year, the ceremony will also recognize the latest two anglers to have achieved 100 world records in their lifetimes. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Dotty Ballantyne of Bozeman, Montana and Heather Harkavy of Coral Springs, Florida. Less than 15 anglers have earned this award, and with the addition of Dotty and Heather only a third of that number will be women.
“There are lots of strong anglers out there right now,” said IGFA Records Coordinator Jack Vitek. “We are excited to congratulate Dotty and Heather on their 100 record milestone, and we look forward to welcoming more Lifetime Achievers – both women and men – who are working toward the same goal.”
