Pioneer Sportsmen’s youth shooting team, Venturing Crew 556 receives sponsorship from Sig Sauer Academy. Last year the Academy helped start the team with donations of ammo, ear and eye protection. This year they are increasing their support with six new P229 pistols. Academy director Adam Pinchaud said, “We are very proud to help this team that is focused on getting youth started in the shooting sports. The Sig Sauer P229 pistols with the 22 conversion kits pre-installed are perfect for new shooters as well as competing in Scholastic Steel Challenge.”
The co-ed youth team practices throughout the year in the Concord NH area. All the members are trained in firearm safety and shooting skills by six NRA certified coaches. The team accepts youth with no shooting experience and no personal gear. Members must demonstrate the proper attitude, self-discipline and be good ambassadors of the shooting sports. The team does not look for a free ride as they stay busy with fundraisers and community service. The Crew is hosting an open house on March 16th in Dunbarton NH. High school aged youth in the area can get all the details at www.pioneersportsmen.org. Members compete in Silhouette Rifle, Steel Challenge, and IDPA pistol competitions and plans to add USPSA and shotgun events.
Coach Mike Michaels said the team is very excited about its relationship with Sig Sauer Academy and hopes to develop a summer camp for intermediate to advanced junior shooters drawing competitors from New England and beyond.
