Mississippi DWFP & Canton Parks and Recreation to Host Youth Fishing Rodeo at Turcotte Ponds

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Fisheries Bureau and Canton Parks and Recreation are hosting a youth fishing rodeo at the Turcotte Education Center Fishing Rodeo ponds on Saturday, March 30, 2013. The fishing rodeo is open to youth 15 years of age and under, and registration begins at 7:00 a.m. The Education Center is located on Highway 43 just east of the Natchez Trace on Ross Barnett Reservoir.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear, catfish bait, and stringers.

The rodeos offer a quality fishing experience for young anglers in a controlled and safe environment and are a great way for families to spend quality time together.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP), formerly known as the Mississippi Game & Fish Commission, is an agency of the government of the U.S. state ofMississippi responsible for programs protecting Mississippi fish and wildlife resources and their habitats, as well as administering all state parks; it has its headquarters in Jackson. The agency issues hunting and fishing licenses, advises on habitat protection, and sponsors public education programs. It is also responsible for enforcement of Mississippi's fish and game laws.
