Oregon’s Morgan Lake Opens to Fishing April 27

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife reminds anglers that Morgan Lake is currently closed to fishing and will re-open April 27.

According to Tim Bailey, La Grande district fish biologist, an inadvertent omission in the 2013 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations led several anglers to question if Morgan Lake had opened to fishing on Jan. 1, 2013.

“I’ve heard from several anglers who noticed the omission of the Morgan Lake special regulation and wanted to know if the lake is currently open to fishing,” Bailey said. “It was not our intention to change management of this lake so we issued a temporary rule in January that closed the lake until April 27.”

The lake is owned and operated by the City of La Grande, which closes access to the lake when it’s not open for fishing. The winter access closure minimizes maintenance needs and vandalism of facilities at the lake.

Morgan Lake is scheduled to be stocked with 1,000 rainbow trout the week before it opens.
