NRA Youth Education Summit Receives Record Number of Applications

Hundreds of high school students from all over the United States applied for the NRA’s week long educational experience

The Youth Education Summit, NRA’s educational experience for high school students, received a record number 300 applications this year.

The week long trip brings high school sophomores and juniors from all over the country to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C., for a time they won’t soon forget.

Only a fraction of the applicants will be invited to attend the summit and that’s not including North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Texas, who run their own state Y.E.S. programs that graduate winners to the national summit in D.C.

There’s never a dull moment a dull moment during the week as the students travel all around the D.C. area seeing sights and meeting the people who help make our nation great.

Attendees also have multiple scholarship opportunities, develop leadership, public speaking, and debating skills, increase their awareness and appreciation of American government, get introduced to the shooting sports and so much more.

Of course no week long trip hosted by the National Rifle Association would be complete without two things: learning about the significance of our American Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the importance of being an active citizen and a visit to the NRA Range.

So, who’s high school students were the most active this year? It was actually a tie between Ohio and Illinois who each submitted 20 applications.

“It’ll be tough to get through all these by April—but that’s our goal!” said Senior Event Services Coordinator Nicole McMahon.

The success of Y.E.S. would not have been possible without the support of our NRA Field Reps spreading the word. “Thank you all for your support and getting the word out to your committees and volunteers,” McMahon added.

Did you apply this year or know someone who is anxiously waiting for a response? Students will be notified of their acceptance by mid-April, so you have a little more time to wait. Good luck.
