Two Miles of Clark Fork River Closed Near Warm Springs Ponds in Montana

A nearly two-mile stretch of the Clark Fork River near Warm Springs Ponds is closed for public safety while construction crews work to remove toxic sediment as part of the Clark Fork Superfund cleanup project.
The river closure begins three quarters of a mile below the Warm Springs Pond 2 “discharge lot” and then extends for 1.75 miles downstream. The closure boundary is signed.
Additionally, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks closed a 10-acre portion of the adjacent Warm Springs Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and a road in the WMA to allow room for heavy equipment to work safely.
Most of the WMA remains open, so FWP cautions visitors to be alert for truck traffic when accessing the Job Corps Ponds. The WMA road is closed past the ponds, but the river can be accessed by foot on the WMA north of the closed area.
FWP says that these emergency closures are in effect for 120 days and may be extended for the projected one-year construction period. View the complete emergency closure notice online at fwp.mt.gov under “public notices.”
