Montana’s Havre Hunter Course Scheduled in Late April

A bow hunter education course is scheduled later this month in Havre.
The classes will run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on April 29, May 1 and May 3 at the Bear Paw Bowmen Archery Range, located six miles west of town on the Badlands Road. A mandatory field day event, where practical skills are tested, is set for 8 a.m. – noon on May 4 at the rookery, also on Badlands Road.
In Montana, completion of a hunter education course is required for all hunters born after Jan. 1, 1985. In addition, all first-time bow hunters must complete a bow hunter education course and field day testing before they can purchase an archery license in the state.
A child must be at least 11 years old to take the classroom courses. Registration for the Havre bow hunter education course is taking place online through the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ web site at fwp.mt.gov and through the Havre FWP office at 2165 U.S. Highway 2 East. To register on the website, click on the “Education” section, then “Bow Hunter Education,” then “View Course Schedule.”
Students must print out and bring the student agreement form from the online registration site on the first night of class. If the student is under 18, a parent or guardian must sign. Students are required to attend all of the classes to be certified.
Hunter and bow hunter education courses are also available online for students who are over 18. Online students must pay an administrative fee and, depending on their age, may be required to complete other requirements. Sessions taught in a traditional classroom setting are free.
Graduates of the online bow hunter classes can attend the May 4 field day only if they register beforehand and bring their certificate of course completion to the event.
