Minnesota DNR Invites Input on Proposed ATV Trail in Cass and Crow Wing Counties
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites the public to review and comment on a proposal to authorize state grant-in-aid trail funding for a 56-mile all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trail in Cass and Crow Wing counties.
Cass County will sponsor the proposal and will provide trail development and maintenance in cooperation with the Over the Hills Gang ATV Club.
A portion of the trail connects the cities of Emily and Outing along Trunk Highway 6 and provides access to businesses and hospitality services in these communities. The trail also provides connections to Remer and Cass Lake to the north, and Moose Lake and Onamia to the south.
The trail travels along state and county forest roads and Land O’ Lakes State Forest trail. It also uses state, county, township and municipal roads and passes through a short segment of private land.
ATV use is already allowed on the entire trail corridor. The trail will continue to be open to
nonmotorized use in the Land O’ Lakes State Forest. Adding the trail to the grant-in-aid system will provide more funding for trail signs, maintenance, monitoring and repair. The trail may be closed at times for safety or to prevent erosion or trail damage.
