Millennials may be tech-savvy, but they spend less time outdoors than any previous generation according to research from the Children and Nature Network. Vasque is trying to change that fact by teaming up with the Outdoor Foundation and its Outdoor Nation program as a Founding/Platinum Sponsor of the Outsiders Ball, to be held July 30 at the Gallivan Center in Salt Lake City. Former Vasque President, Bill Sweasy is a chair on the host committee for this first-time event that precedes the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market and will feature food, music, and immersive art experiences. The Outdoor Retailer Summer Show runs from July 31 to August 3 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.
“The Outsiders Ball brings a new, engaging element to one of the industry’s key annual gatherings,” says Vasque Vice President, George Curleigh. “We’re proud to support this event and get behind its mission of encouraging new generations to get outdoors.”
The Outsiders Ball will include an Artist’s Corner that is sponsored by Vasque and will feature a component that allows participants to create their own work onsite. As the sponsor of the Artist’s Corner, Vasque is collaborating with Minnesota-based artist and illustrator, Viet Do. An original piece of Do’s work will be auctioned during the event, and prints of his other pieces will be available for sale with all proceeds to benefit the Outdoor Nation.
Proceeds from the Outsiders Ball support Outdoor Nation, the Outdoor Foundation’s, three-year campaign to get young people outdoors. The Outdoor Foundation is the Outdoor Industry Association’s not-for-profit 501(c) charged with inspiring future generations of outdoor enthusiasts. Since its founding in 2010, Outdoor Nation has held 17 regional summits and funded 400 projects with over 75,000 youth participants nationwide.
