Video: Raccoon Tightropes Across Power Lines

When Mavis Knight saw a strange sight just outside her Toronto home, she decided to record it on camera to show her husband. There, dangling from two telephone wires, was a raccoon slowly making its way across. Much to Mavis’ amazement, this peculiar tightrope performer seemed to know what it was doing.

Raccoons are well known to get into tricky places and have sensitive front paws from which its name is derived, a term originally borrowed from the Powhaten language by early American colonists. Along with acrobatic prowess, the raccoon also has a rather unflattering reputation as thieves. Thief or not, Mavis admits that the animal is “very, very clever.” According to CNN, the raccoon was traveling to a football field some distance away.
