Hilldale Hornets Take Oklahoma State Championship

59 teams arrived today in the largest turnout to date for the Oklahoma High School Fishing State Championship. Blake Capps and Josh Giem of the Hilldale High School Hornets rose above the pack to claim the state champion titles. Capps and Giem weighed in an impressive 16lb 12ounce bag.

This win moves the Hilldale team to the 2013 TBF/FLW Southern Conference Championship on Lake Texoma, October 19. A win there would advance the team to nationals to compete for a $10,000 scholarship.

Close on their heels, was Tyler Jaggars and Rowdy Young with Wetumka High School Chieftains. Jaggars and Young weighed 16lbs 10ounces to come up a mere two ounces short of the title. Third place was Jared Tolle and Matthew Herring of Kiefer High School weighing 16lbs 1 ounce.

Oklahoma anglers and all SAF members nationwide are eligible to register for and compete in the 2013 High School Fishing World Finals to be held July 15-20, 2013 in Russellville, Ark. The world finals will pay out over $40,000 in college scholarships and prizes.

Many new high school teams made an appearance this year, and the first SAF Oklahoma Opens are already being planned. The season is just heating up; there will be several opportunities out on the Oklahoma waters this year.
