Visit Grand Rapids announces nomination to the World Fishing Network’s Ultimate Fishing Town Contest
Grand Rapids, MN nomination to the Ultimate Fishing Town Contest is a part of the 2013 fishing marketing campaign. Grand Rapids, Minnesota is located in the NE part of the state. It has been a favorite Minnesota vacation destination for over 100 years. The area’s renowned 1,000 lakes represents the second highest number of great Minnesota fishing lakes per county. The Grand Rapids area is a fishing mecca for anglers in search of crappie, northerns, walleye, panfish, bass and perch. The Grand Rapids, Minnesota fishing season begins with open water in May and runs through hard ice until end of March.
Visit Grand Rapids is the destination marketing organization for the Grand Rapids, Minnesota area. Their mission is to generate a positive economic impact through travel and tourism. “Visit Grand Rapids see’s the Ultimate Fishing Contest as an opportunity to expand fishing tourism for the Grand Rapids, Minnesota area”, states Megan Christianson, Visit Grand Rapids Director. “The $25,000 grand prize winning would more than double the fishing destination marketing budget.” Visit Grand Rapids is funded by 3% lodging tax that comes from Grand Rapids hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, and Itasca County area resorts. The area lodging properties are either located on area lakes or in close proximity. The Grand Rapids area offers a wide variety of fishing vacation opportunities at area lodging properties.
The Grand Rapids area resides in the north central part of Minnesota. The area is known for its distinguished fishing lakes and forests, as well as its convenient location to the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Located in NE Minnesota, an easy 3-hour or 180 mile drive. Grand Rapids location makes it close enough to be convenient, but far enough to provide a grand fishing vacation experience.
