Mississippi DWFP and City of Byram Host Youth Fishing Day at Lake Dockery

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) and the City of Byram will host a youth fishing day at Lake Dockery on Saturday, May 4, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Fishing will be open to youth ages 15 and under that are accompanied by an adult with a valid Mississippi fishing license.

Lake Dockery will open to the general public on Sunday, May 5. For more information including daily bag limits, fishing hours, and lake rules please contact the City of Byram at (601) 372-7791.

“Lake Dockery is part of our Community Assistance Program that is designed to provide fishing opportunities in urban environments,” according to MDWFP Fisheries Biologist Jerry Brown. “This lake was recently renovated and stocked with largemouth bass, bream, and catfish that will provide great fishing opportunities.”

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP), formerly known as the Mississippi Game & Fish Commission, is an agency of the government of the U.S. state ofMississippi responsible for programs protecting Mississippi fish and wildlife resources and their habitats, as well as administering all state parks; it has its headquarters in Jackson. The agency issues hunting and fishing licenses, advises on habitat protection, and sponsors public education programs. It is also responsible for enforcement of Mississippi's fish and game laws.
