Nebraska’s Cornhusker Trapshoot is May 2-4

The 44th annual Cornhusker Trapshoot is May 2-4 on the home grounds of the Nebraska Trapshooting Association (NTA) in Doniphan. Officials expect approximately 2,400 shooters – which would be a record – to compete.

Because of the continued growth and time requirements of the event, some changes have been made for the senior high school shooters this year. Shooters will have 75 targets each, instead of 100 as in past years, for 16-yard and handicap competition. In addition, each squad will be timed and have 45 minutes to shoot. Two traps will be available for practice May 2, but they will be used for competition the following two days.

Competition will take place in team and individual divisions. An estimated 900 junior high students are expected to shoot 100 16-yard targets May 2. Approximately 1,500 high school competitors will shoot 75 16-yard targets May 3, then 75 handicap targets May 4. The shooter with the highest combined score will earn the Cornhusker Cup.

The event is open nationwide to all shooters in grades 6-12. Last year, the event drew 780 junior and 1,253 senior high shooters.

The NTA home grounds are located 3 miles south of Interstate 80 exit 312 on U.S. 281. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the NTA are hosts.
