Breast Cancer Charity Pistol Match Returns in Idaho

May 4th, brings the sixth annual Shoot for A Cure charity pistol match again to host range Nampa Rod and Gun Club in Nampa, Idaho. The 2012 event raised a record $11,596 for St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute to help uninsured or under-insured women pay for mammograms. In just five years, the event has raised over $36,000. There were 237 shooters, including 120 women at the 2012 event and as usual, the 2013 event sold out early with 274 participants.

The goal of the Shoot for A Cure match is to encourage women to learn and enjoy the sport of pistol shooting while raising money for a worthy cause. Event co-founder, Tina Fisher stated “There is no one whose life has not been impacted by cancer.” Shoot For A Cure is a great opportunity to commemorate and raise awareness. The event includes courses of fire range from simple to a bit more challenging, a catered lunch, side events, raffles, prizes and loads of fun which make for an enjoyable day. Individuals who register for the match can take advantage of free classes from discipline directors and NRaGC president.

Event founders, Travis and Tina Fisher created the annual competition after Travis’s 16-year-old daughter was diagnosed with cancer. The Shoot for A Cure match welcomes teams and individual shooters of all skill levels; women and men 16 years or older. Teams include families, coworkers, cancer survivors and supporters. Beginner level shooters are guided and mentored by experienced competitive shooters for what is always a great event filled with fun, camaraderie, prizes generously donated by supporters of shooting sports and sponsors as well as ample raffle opportunities for shooters and non-shooters alike. Of course, extreme caution and safety are paramount and as with any competition, good hearted ribbing and bragging rights flow freely – All for a good cause.

Everyone over 16 years old who didn’t get signed up is invited to come out to NRaGC after 1:00 to buy raffle tickets for a chance to win some great prizes – This year, among the dozens of great raffle and silent auction items to help raise money for St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute, there are eight guns on the raffle table, two of which are valued at $1,100 and $1,500 each.
