Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for the Ohio River at Gallipolis, Ohio

This past Saturday May 4, 2013 the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Ohio River at Gallipoli, Ohio. In the event over 75 of the top anglers from 6 different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2013 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held September 26-28, 2013 on Kentucky Lake at Camden, Tennessee Be sure to check out our new website at: www.kingkatusa.com. Results for the Top 5 Teams
Taking first place was the team of Chad Ord of New Haven, West Virginia and Todd Anderson of Mason, West Virginia weighing in a total weight of 105.82 pounds and earning $3,000.00. Chad and Todd were fishing 20 miles upriver from Gallipolis on the main stem of the river anchored down using skipjack and live shad. The team caught their fish in 30 feet of water catching most of their 8 fish on skipjack. Each team is allowed to weigh in their 5 largest fish for the day.
In second place was the Bardstown, Kentucky team of Steve and Lisa Douglas with a weight of 93.96 pounds and earning $1,200.00. The Douglas team was anchored down on the main river 2 miles south using skipjack in 30 feet of water to catch 6 fish for the day.
Third place went to the Otway, Ohio team of David Hart and Teresa Shelpman with a total weight of 92.5 and earning $700.00. David and Teresa also earned an additional $700.00 for big fish of the event weighing in at 48.44 pounds. The team was fishing north of the weigh in site in 30 feet of water using live shad and skipjack with all their keeper fish coming off skipjack. The team caught a total of 8 fish for the day.
JC and Randy Albright of West Columbia, West Virginia took fourth place with a weight of 92.14 pounds and earning $500.00. JC and Randy were fishing 20 miles north on the main channel in 30 feet of water using skipjack to catch only 6 fish for the day.
In fifth place was the team of James and Karen Pauley of Letart, West Virginia with a weight of 89.92 pounds and earning $400.00. James and Karen were fishing only 1/2 mile down river from the weigh in site anchored down in the main river using skipjack that had been prepared 2 days earlier and fishing in 30 feet of water to catch 6 fish for the day.
“A special thanks to Amanda and Karen of the Gallia County CVB and Ray McKinniss of Bob Evans Farms for furnishing a great location for the Kids Fishing Rodeo where over 50 kids caught over 230 fish in 2 hours”, said Outdoor Promotions CEO Darrell VanVactor. “A total of 15 teams from the Ohio Hills catfish club fished the event with 6 teams in the top 7 places, not a bad average I would say”, added VanVactor.
