Oregon Family Fishing Event May 11 at Sheridan Pond

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting a Family Fishing event Saturday, May 11 at Sheridan Pond in Sheridan, Ore.

Staff and volunteer fishing instructors will be present at the event to offer helpful tips to families who want to learn how to fish. The department will loan out rods, reels and tackle and provide bait to anyone who needs it. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

“Sheridan Pond is a nice family-oriented site that provides excellent access for families and kids,” said Jeff Fulop, youth fishing event coordinator for ODFW’s North Willamette Watershed District. “That makes it ideal for a Family Fishing event.”

Under Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, anglers aged 13 and under who want to participate in the Family Fishing event do not need a fishing license. Youths ages 14-17 must have a juvenile license, which can be purchased for $9 from ODFW offices and license outlets. Adults also need fishing licenses to fish at Sheridan Pond.

To get to Sheridan Pond take Hwy. 18 to Exit 33 onto Balston Rd. Go south on Balston Rd. approximately half a mile and turn left onto a gravel road leading about a quarter mile to the pond.
