Michigan’s Ingham County PF Raffling Off One Gun Each Week for Entire Year

Starting in July 2013, the Ingham County (Michigan) Chapter of Pheasants Forever (PF) will be giving away 52 guns – one per week for an entire year – in an effort to increase funding for the chapter’s upland habitat work. Tickets for the raffle are on sale now for 52 dollars each. A maximum of one thousand tickets will be sold, or one gun for every 19 tickets sold, and only 550 tickets remain!

The impressive gun list includes firearms by Benelli, Browning, Beretta, Remington, Ruger, Smith & Wesson and more. Winning ticket numbers will be placed back into the pool of tickets, so by purchasing just one ticket, you’ll have a chance to win every week! Winning tickets will be determined by the Michigan “Wednesday Evening” Daily 3 Game starting July 31. You can purchase tickets directly over the phone by calling (517) 652-5175 or visiting Ingham County’s website for complete 52-gun raffle details and to purchase tickets.

“For the cost of one dollar per week, you can have a chance at winning some firearms that make great additions to any collection,” said Jeff Davis, president of Ingham County PF, “Most importantly, this gives our chapter the opportunity to raise funds that stand to benefit upland birds and wildlife right here in Ingham County.”

PF empowers local and county chapters with the responsibility to determine how 100 percent of their locally raised conservation funds will be spent – the only national conservation organization that operates through this truly grassroots structure. As a result, chapter volunteers are able to see the fruits of their efforts locally, while belonging to a larger national organization with a voice on federal and state conservation policy.

Michigan’s 36 PF chapters consist of over 8,600 PF members. Those chapters have spent 9.1 million dollars to improve Michigan wildlife habitat, completing 66,474 habitat projects benefitting over 456,600 acres for wildlife.

Pheasants Forever launched Quail Forever in August of 2005 to address the continuing loss of habitat suitable for quail and the subsequent quail population decline. Bobwhite population losses over the last 25 years range from 60 to 90 percent across the country. The reason for the quail population plunge is simple - massive losses of habitat suitable for quail. There are five major factors leading to the losses of quail habitat; intensified farming and forestry practices, succession of grassland ecosystems to forests, overwhelming presence of exotic grasses like fescue that choke out wildlife, and urban sprawl.
