‘Outdoor Journal’ Goes Fishing & Electrofishing, Youngsters Learn Hunting Skills

On Tuesday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m., “VPT’s Outdoor Journal” will air the final episode of its new season.  November’s annual Frostbite Fleet Salmon Shootout challenges hardy Lake Champlain anglers.  Viewers will meet some friends who participate in the derby.

A story about electrofishing shows how researchers capture lake trout on Lake Champlain.  The information they collect on some 400 lakers helps the researchers monitor the health of the fishery and measure impacts of the lamprey control program.

Youngsters learn hunting skills at the Youth Education Challenge at the Edward Kehoe Conservation Camp in Castleton.

The Middlesex Wildlife Management Area is explored.  The area is managed for important deer wintering habitat.

The program will re-air on Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m. and be available on demand anywhere at vpt.org/outdoorjournal.  All six episodes of the season will re-air beginning Tuesday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m.
