$1,000 White Bass Caught on Arkansas’ Lake Hamilton

You don’t need a ton of expensive fishing equipment to score big in the $60,000 2013 Hot Springs Fishing Challenge.
Hot Springs resident Tom Kimmerly landed a $1,000 white bass money fish while fishing on Lake Hamilton with a $1.96 shad lure he bought at Wal-Mart.

Kimmerly was out fishing with his son, Skyler, around 6:15 a.m. when he caught the fish. The father-son duo were fishing off the twin points across from Electric Island when Tom reeled in the fish with Tag No. 265. It was the second white bass to be caught in this year’s Challenge.

There are still 47 other Challenge cash prize fish in lakes Catherine and Hamilton, including the $10,000 Grand Prize fish known as Big Al the Second.

The Challenge runs through July 31. The Second Hot Springs Fishing Challenge, which began May 1, provides anglers the opportunity to catch tagged fish that can be redeemed for cash prizes.

Prize Distribution: The tagged fish that remain are:

  • 1 fish $10,000
  • 2 fish $5,000
  • 25 fish $1,000
  • 19 fish $500

This is done through habitat management, fish stocking, hunting and fishing regulations, and a host of other programs.
