Crappie USA Tournament Results for Indiana’s Mississinewa & Salamonie Lakes

This past Saturday June 15th Crappie USA held a qualifying event on the Mississinewa & Salamonie Lakes in Wabash County, Indiana. These anglers from 10 different states were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year’s classic will be held October 23-26, 2013 on Kentucky Lake at Paris, Tennessee.
Semi-Pro Division Results
Taking first place was the team of Charlie Hildreth of Gaston, Indiana and Paul Hildreth of Muncie, Indiana with a total weight of 2.95 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Charlie and Paul were fishing Mississinewa slow trolling in 6-20 feet of water using Southern Pro chartreuse glow 2 inch tubes tipped with shiners, also vertical jigging some standing timber finding no set pattern to the 15 fish they caught the day of the event.
Second place went to the lone angler Ron Bilbry of Anderson, Indiana with a weight of 2.78 pounds and earning $600.00. Ron also fished Mississinewa using his Driftmaster Rod Holders and B’n’M Poles to spider rig shiners and catching between 100 to 150 fish for the day.
In third place was Joe Long of Edinburg, Indiana and Dave Wright of Columbus, Indiana weighing in 2.47 pounds and earning $400.00. Joe and Dave also fishing Mississinewa were spider rigging in 13 feet of water using Southern Pro jigs to catch 15-20 fish for the day.
*Winning the Ranger Cup Award in the Semi-Pro Division was Charlie Hildreth earning $500.00.
*Second biggest fish of the event went to Roy Capes of Cordele, Georgia and Robert Harris of Warner Robbins, Georgia with a 1.12 pound crappie which earned the team $100.50.
Amateur Division Results
First place in the amateur division was the team of Jeff Yeakle of Jonesboro, Indiana and Jonathan Brumley III of Marion, Indiana with a weight of 5.08 pounds and earning $650.00. Jeff and Jonathan were slow trolling Southern Pro chartreuse sparkle jigs tipped with shiners in 4-5 feet of water to catch over 100 fish for the day.
Second place went to Eric Vandeventer and Monte Martin of West Lafayette, Indiana with a weight of 4.19 pounds and earning $400.00. Eric and Monte also captured big fish of the event with a 1.53 pound crappie giving the team an additional $234.50. Eric and Monte like the others were spider rigging in 14-20 feet of water using Southern Pro jigs tipped with crappie Nibbles with most of their 130 to 140 fish coming off points.
Taking third place was Morris and Linda Chesnut of Marion, Indiana weighing in 3.84 pounds and earning $225.00. Morris and Linda were slow trolling black/chartreuse jigs with nibbles and with shiners catching their fish on bottom in 11-12 feet of water.
In fourth was the team of Steve and Daniel Gentz of St. Louis, Missouri with a weight of 3.43 pounds and earning $150.00. Steve and Daniel were slow trolling Salamonie in 8 feet of water with their fish holding in 5 feet of water and catching 7 fish total on jigs tipped with Stubby Steve’s.
*Winning the Ranger Cup Award in the Amateur Division was Eric Vandeventer earning $125.00.
