Tennessee Commission to Hear USFWS Framework for Waterfowl Seasons During June Meeting

The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Resources Commission will hear a presentation on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service framework in regard to the 2013-14 waterfowl seasons among the agenda items at its June meeting.
The commission will meet June 27-28 at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Ray Bell Region II Building. Committee meetings begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday and the formal commission meeting is at 9 a.m. Friday.
TWRA staff will explain the USFWS framework. The waterfowl hunting seasons are established at the TFWC’s August meeting.
Mark Duda, from Responsive Management, will make a presentation on the results of a recent survey conducted for the TWRA. The public opinion survey was held to gauge interest in sandhill cranes and their management.
TWRA Information and Education Division Chief Don King will update the commission in regard to marketing efforts with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation to increase license sales to anglers. Don Crawford, the division’s assistant chief, will present an update on the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) and the National Fishing in the Schools Program (NFSP). The 7th Annual Tennessee State Tournament was held this spring.
The commission will hear from a pair of guests. Mike Butler, of the Tennessee Wildlife Federation, will speak about the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP). Mitch King, from the Archery Trades Association, will also make a presentation.
The TFWC’s June meeting is its last scheduled meeting until August. The commission traditionally does not meet during July.
