Joshua York and Lauren Stayer were named the 2013 Ohio Project WILD Facilitators of the Year, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). York and Stayer are naturalists at Five Rivers MetroParks in Dayton.
The annual award from the ODNR Division of Wildlife and the Council for Environmental Education is given to a Project WILD facilitator who has contributed significantly to Ohio’s Project WILD program.
Through multiple partnerships with York and Stayer, schools and child care facilities in the Dayton area have participated in many ‘Project WILD,’ ‘Growing Up WILD’ and ‘WILD School Site’ training opportunities. York and Stayer developed a series of popular workshops that combine Project WILD programs and activities with their own ‘Inquiry Adventures’ program.
York is the Five Rivers MetroParks Education Supervisor and has been a Project WILD facilitator since 2007. Stayer was named a Project WILD facilitator in 2011.
Project WILD is a supplementary education program emphasizing awareness, appreciation and understanding of wildlife and natural resources to generate interest and participation. More information is available at wildohio.com.
