Video: Crocodile Attacks Australian Pig Hunters, Eats Dog

Four Australian hunters recently had a terrifying confrontation with a crocodile that resulted in the death of a hunting dog, and managed to catch part of the incident on video. While pursuing a boar near the Darwin River in Australia’s Northern Territory, the hunters and their dogs cornered the swine in shallow water. Knowing that the water could mask hidden dangers, the hunters acted to bring the dogs out of the river.

“One of the guys was knee deep trying to get the dogs out and they had a guy looking just in case of crocs,” friend of the hunters Chris Tagell told Northern Territory News. “He spotted it at the last minute.”

The reported 14-foot reptile then surged out of the water in an attempt to bite one of the hunters.

“The croc pushed [the spotter] backwards into the water and he was between the croc and the bank,” Tagell said. “The croc went up the side of the bank, he had to climb over the croc to get away. It either ignored him or missed him.”

As the spotter scrambled to safety, the crocodile turned its attention on the pack of dogs still on the water’s edge. It only took one well-aimed lunge to bring one of the dogs into the water. The rest of the dogs and hunters managed to escape the attack unscathed.

You can see a video of the event below. It was taken by a GoPro camera worn by one of the hunters.

The hunters chose to remain anonymous, although they say the death of the hunting dog has hit them hard. The boar they had been chasing found the commotion a perfect time to escape.
