Video: Deer Make Cunning Bird Feeder Thieves

Raccoons and coyotes are often portrayed as the thieves of the animal kingdom, but deer also try their hand—or hoof—at theft when they have the chance. The animals are especially opportunistic during winter when food is scarce, and many bird lovers may find that their feeders have been appropriated by hungry deer. It’s hard to think of the skittish animals as anything other than amateurs, though, as the video below shows. While deer may lack the finesse of other critters, they still manage to scrounge a meal off this bird feeder.

While the birds might be complaining, they should consider themselves lucky that the deer aren’t munching on them. Deer will occasionally eat the odd bird or small animal as a quick, nutritious snack. You can read more about that here.
