Video: Lioness Launches Acrobatic Attack on Fleeing Antelope

Lions may be known for their strength, but the large cats are also very agile for their size. Visitors to South Africa’s famed Shamwari Game Reserve caught the following video of two lionesses waiting in ambush on a ridge while two blesbok antelopes ran past. The lions quickly hurled themselves at their prey, prompting one to leap off the ridge. Instead of finding safety below, the unfortunate blesbok was intercepted mid-air by one of the hunters and overwhelmed.

Blesboks are not known to be good jumpers. Lions, on the other hand, can leap as high as 12 feet. Their smaller cousins, the North American mountain lion, are even more impressive, with a maximum jump height of 20 feet.
