An Illinois native was fishing in in Iowa waters last Thursday when he snapped this unbelievable photo. Catfish can be voracious eaters, but it appears that this snake managed to turn the tables on the fish.
Colin Wehrle of Moline, Illinois, sent it to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to identify the snake.
While the size of snake was surprising (over three feet), the Iowa DNR confirmed that it was a non-venomous northern water snake. However, the angler was not aware of this at the time and he stated that he used a GoPro attached to a long pole to snap the picture.
