Video: Cat Nearly Gives Bear a Heart Attack

Darliss Elliot of Eagle River, Alaska never expected her cat to come to her defense in an encounter with potentially dangerous wildlife, but an abrupt pounce from her two-year-old cat Nani was enough to scare a young bear into full retreat.

“She’s really such a fraidy-cat most of the time, I don’t know what got into her. She probably wouldn’t have lunged if we weren’t standing right behind her,” Elliot told KTUU.

The bear was likely sniffing around for food or simply curious. Younger bears are often more inquisitive than adults, and this bear may have never even seen a cat before. The tiny Savannah cat looked like it knew perfectly well what it was doing, and even displayed what looked like stalking behavior. The sudden lunge from the cat sent the bear not only backpedaling as fast as its paws could take it, but tumbling off the porch as well.
