SilencerCo, the Utah-based company best known for their distinctive line of suppressors, has announced a new subsidiary focused on weapons research and development. The group, which will be operating independently from SilencerCo, is described as a “skunkworks outfit” that is geared toward innovation in firearms.
“Located in Austin, TX, SilencerCo Weapons Research, or SWR for short, is based around bringing technology within reach of the Everyman,” read a press release from the company. “For too long, technological advances surrounding the shooting industry have been priced out of the attainable range of most citizens, kept a secret, or the public has simply been told that they can’t have them. SWR not only believes that you deserve better—they plan to show it.”
SWR is expected to announce their intial product offering later in September. According to the company, consumers should expect products that “enhance the shooting experience and bring into civilian reach capabilities that were formerly only available to government end users.” As for what specifically the subsidiary will be working on, few details have been released so far.
