Video: Wahoo Jumps Sky-high to Snatch Bait

There are plenty of reasons why anglers like using kite baits on wahoos, and this is a good one. Wahoos may not be as prominent as big game fish like tuna and marlin, but these speedsters make up in pure acceleration what they lack in size. It is not unknown for the fish to swim up to 60 mph, making the wahoo one of the fastest fish in the ocean.

In the video below, an angler tempts this wahoo into leaping out of the water for a chance at some bait. Not one to be teased, the fish shot out of the ocean like a bullet.

“Look close and you can see the leader in his mouth, wrote Inside Sportfishing on its Facebook page. “We were putting out the kite. The bait was 25 feet in the air when he exploded and ate it in mid-air. One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen and to actually get the shot. So lucky.”
