Trail cameras can sometimes catch images of strange things other than wildlife. According to WLOX, Rainer and Edith Shattles of Jackson County, Mississippi were reviewing footage from their 150-acre property when one image stood out. In it a deer stood with its back to the camera, staring at a pair of lights hovering off the ground.

“We have unusual things happen around here that happen, but it’s usually associated with our grandchildren. But this case, we didn’t know what it was,” Edith Shattles said. “I was looking for a nice buck to be showing up on the trail camera actually.”

You can watch an interview with the Shattles below:

The couple said that they are not sure what the lights were, but explained that there was no road in the area and that the mysterious object disappeared in the next frame. Many online commenters have speculated that the lights actually came from a truck or ATV spotlighting the deer, but according to the Christian Science Monitor, the couple found no tire tracks in the area. Other popular theories involve UFOs, remote-controlled aerial drones, or even a trick of lighting.

“Well, if it’s alien, I’m not sure about that. But it’s definitely a UFO,” Rainer Shattles told WLOX.

It is certainly not the first time that a trail camera captured mysterious lights. In 2010, a Texas hunter near Fort Worth showed footage of what appeared to be a string of lights in the sky. In that case, the hunter said the lights may have originated from aircraft flying from the nearby Sheppard Air Force Base.

“It’s creepy,” Lisa Brock-Piekarski, the hunter, told KTSM at the time. “I don’t know if I want to be sitting out in my deer stand by myself anymore, hunting.”

The couple said that they will pursuing any leads in the hope of uncovering the truth behind the mystery.

It’s just a double reflection of the deer’s eyes. It happens all the time. The deer is not standing with its back to the camera, it is facing the camera and the washout of the deer’s face is simply the reflection of the deer’s tapetum lucidum on the retina.

      No…

Yes, I can comfirm this. Happen to a friend of mine.

That doesn’t explain all the other lights.

Look at the video again. They have (at least) two cameras out there. One is an older model and is NOT infrared. The light illuminating the deer is coming from the flash from another trail cam.

I like your explanation , but the illumination part is not easily explained away.

The deer is DEFINITELY looking at the camera…you can see it in the image. Not to mention the “lights” are the same intensity as the reflection from their eyes in other images. Since there are multiple cameras on the property, the “other lights” are the flash.

Are you saying this may have been staged?

    Better call Fox Mulder! LOL

The photo shows a bi pyramidal object, clearly off the ground and axis shifted around 45 degrees. Odd thing, it appears transparent ( like a ghostly image) . You can see woods back ground through it. Dunno, its almost looks like a fake. But, I don’t have the photoshop tools to examine it for an overlay.

Somebody jackin deer with a light and a mirroe

  • Master Flash

The news broadcaster states the camera doesn’t emit light. Then why did they put all those infrared LEDs on it? To look “high tech”?

What Bernie said. I’ve seen this before as well. Plus, cheap trail cam. Get a Reconyx.
