Trail cameras can sometimes catch images of strange things other than wildlife. According to WLOX, Rainer and Edith Shattles of Jackson County, Mississippi were reviewing footage from their 150-acre property when one image stood out. In it a deer stood with its back to the camera, staring at a pair of lights hovering off the ground.
“We have unusual things happen around here that happen, but it’s usually associated with our grandchildren. But this case, we didn’t know what it was,” Edith Shattles said. “I was looking for a nice buck to be showing up on the trail camera actually.”

The couple said that they are not sure what the lights were, but explained that there was no road in the area and that the mysterious object disappeared in the next frame. Many online commenters have speculated that the lights actually came from a truck or ATV spotlighting the deer, but according to the Christian Science Monitor, the couple found no tire tracks in the area. Other popular theories involve UFOs, remote-controlled aerial drones, or even a trick of lighting.
“Well, if it’s alien, I’m not sure about that. But it’s definitely a UFO,” Rainer Shattles told WLOX.
It is certainly not the first time that a trail camera captured mysterious lights. In 2010, a Texas hunter near Fort Worth showed footage of what appeared to be a string of lights in the sky. In that case, the hunter said the lights may have originated from aircraft flying from the nearby Sheppard Air Force Base.
“It’s creepy,” Lisa Brock-Piekarski, the hunter, told KTSM at the time. “I don’t know if I want to be sitting out in my deer stand by myself anymore, hunting.”
The couple said that they will pursuing any leads in the hope of uncovering the truth behind the mystery.
