This absolutely massive morel was found last year by Kenny Nordmeyer of Saline County, Missouri. According to the state’s Department of Conservation,  it was indeed confirmed as a true morel—just a very big one. So what does the inside of this behemoth look like? Well, if you’re a seasoned morel hunter, then you should already know what to expect.

How would you cook this beast of a mushroom?

  1. By any chance is that kind of(morel ) mushroom called a politician ? The description seems quite similar; an overblown fungus with no inner substance . Then again , most of what you get from a politician is hard to swallow and generally not really good for you , so I guess not .

  2. Holy. Thought someone stole my photo at first… found one last spring that looks exactly like that one. Had the mycologist at SOU investigate it and it came back as morchella americana. Canvas wait to hit that spot here in a couple months!
